It's official Southern California wide receiver Kyle Prater is transferring to Northwestern. We reported this weeks ago but today the Wild Cats confirmed the transfer with a press release. Just a couple weeks ago Prater was granted his release from the University of Southern California. (See story below)
According to his high school head coach, Proviso West's Famous Hulbert, Prater was granted a conditional scholarship release which prohibited him from signing with either Notre Dame or any Pac-12 program.
The Maywood native finished 2011 with one reception for six yards after suiting up in 10 games. Prater red shirted his freshman year and was one of 15 wide receivers in the Trojans' rotation this season.
He enrolled at USC during the spring semester of 2010 and was majoring in communication. Prater originally committed to the Trojans prior to the departure of former head coach Pete Carroll to the Seattle Seahawks for the same position.
His verbal word was finalized by eventually signing with USC following the hire of current head coach Lane Kiffin.
